This is a collection of updates regarding HDA news
and events that we have shared with the public since we founded the
Hobby Distiller's Association in Spring of 2014.
If you have any news that you'd like to
share with the HDA, feel free to let us know by contacting us below.
The HDA is currently operated as a division under the Brewhaus
umbrella, but is a strictly non-profit arm.
The association has been set up this way because of lobbying
restrictions placed on non-profit organizations, opening up our
ability to fund legislative changes beyond what membership
dues cover.
That means that if the HDA were set up as a traditional non-profit,
we would have had to stop paying our lobbyist once we ran
out of funds collected from membership. Brewhaus has been covering
all additional expenses to keep the lobbyist working for
us, and they have contributed over $20,000 in the last year.
Our goal is to turn the HDA over to a standalone non-profit
organization once legalization has been achieved, continuing
to help hobbyists change local laws to allow for hobby distilling
and organize association activities to improve enjoyment of the
hobby.
